Issue #9
Hey Friendz,
When you picture life in a tiny home, you probably think of peace, simplicity, maybe even a cup of tea by the window. But if you’re sweating through your shirt in July or shivering under five blankets in January… the dream can start to feel a bit less magical.
Tiny homes heat up and cool down fast—which is both a blessing and a challenge.
Today, we’re looking at how to stay comfortable year-round without blowing your budget or needing a degree in HVAC engineering.
But first, here is the…

🛠️ Tip of the Week
Invest in insulation first.
Whether you're heating or cooling, nothing saves more money than keeping the air you already paid to condition. Good insulation, double-pane windows, and airtight sealing = comfort year-round.

If you’re done thinking about going tiny and your ready to step into a more peaceful way of life, we’re ready to invite you to come live in the Rio Grande Estates Tiny Home Community here in The Land of Enchantment, New Mexico. 🌡️ Smart Climate Control for Small Spaces
Tiny homes don’t need massive systems, but they do need smart solutions. Let’s look at the most popular and practical ways to heat and cool your space.
❄️ Cooling Options
1. Mini Split Systems (Ductless Heat Pumps)
Cost: $1,200–$3,000 (installed)
Very efficient, heats AND cools
Great for off-grid if you have enough solar
✅ Quiet, sleek, easy to zone control
⚠️ Needs pro installation and solid insulation to work well
2. Window or Portable AC Units
Cost: $150–$500
Good for small spaces, but less energy efficient
✅ Easy to find and install
⚠️ Can be loud, bulky, and power-hungry
3. Fans + Passive Cooling
Ceiling or floor fans, plus good ventilation
Use with shades, reflective roofing, or cross-breeze windows
✅ Very low energy use
⚠️ Won’t work well during extreme heat
🔥 Heating Options
1. Mini Split System (Again!)
Doubles as both heater and air conditioner
Works best when paired with good insulation
2. Electric Space Heaters
Cost: $25–$100
Easy to use, just plug in
✅ Great for small spaces
⚠️ Can strain off-grid power systems, needs safety care
3. Wood Stove
Cost: $800–$1,500 + install
Romantic, cozy, and off-grid friendly
✅ Runs without electricity
⚠️ Needs clearance space, chimney pipe, and regular cleaning
4. Propane Wall Heater
Cost: $200–$600
Very efficient, works off-grid
✅ Easy to install, heats fast
⚠️ Needs proper venting and propane refills
Here’s to being in control of your year round comfort.
